What tyre checks can I do myself?

Check your tyre tread – place a 20p piece in between the tyre’s ridges. The tread on the tyre is good if the coin’s rim fits perfectly in between the ridges; if, however, the coin’s rim is visible above the ridges, the tread is likely worn, and the tyre will need to be replaced.

Check the tyre pressure (tyres should not be under or over-inflated) – You can check the tyre pressure on most petrol station forecourts with an air pressure machine. Inside the petrol cap cover and in your owner’s handbook you’ll be able to find the proper tyre pressure. The machine allows you to choose the proper pressure, so you can avoid over-inflating your tyres.
